Galway City is the largest town in County Galway with a population of nearly 75,000. It is the third largest city in Ireland behind Dublin and Cork. Galway has lots of attractions including The Claddagh which is parted from The Spanish Arch with The River Corrib and which is just feet away from The Galway Museum where there are lots of antiques and artifacts on show dating back to old Galway. Lynchs Castle which dates back to the 14th century is located in the heart of Galways shopping area and is now occupied by the AIB Bank. There are two church buildings which are well worth visiting during you visit to Galway City. The first one is St Nicholas Collegiate Church which dates back to 1320 and has many memorial tombs of stone along with two bells which date back to 1630 and 1590. You will also find paved flooring of gravestones dating back to the 16th and 18th century. The second is Galway Cathedral which opened in 1965 on the lands of the original county jail. This large building towers above the surrounding buildings and can be seen from most areas in Galway City. Galway is steeped in traditional music and folklore and most pubs have live music sessions nightly. During the day shoppers are spoilt for choice with a hugh selection of top brand shops. Galway with its welcoming atmosphere offers an excellent selection of restaurants to cater for its many visitors.
